Great success for “Euripides' Helen” at the Teatro dell'Efebo
Euripides' "Helen," the second seasonal performance of Classical and Mythical Theater organized by the Libero Consorzio di Agrigento, also received rave reviews from the audience at the Teatro dell'Efebo, who gave the performers a well-deserved standing ovation at the end of the evening. The performance was led by a monumental Mariano Rigillo, whose long final monologue as the messenger was spectacular.
The most transgressive and innovative of Euripides' tragedies was presented by director Nicasio Anzelmo, with tight dialogue and protagonists brilliantly portraying all the situations of a complicated, at times surreal, plot. Refined music and sets enhanced Orazio Torrisi's beautiful production, with highly acclaimed performances from the entire cast (in addition to Mariano Rigillo, a convincing Silvia Siravo as Helen and Ruben Rigillo, a worthy son of a famous actor, as Menelaus) and magnificent costumes by set and costume designer Vincenzo La Mendola, an Agrigento native now living in Catania.
The next performance at the Teatro Classico is on Saturday, July 19th at 9:00 pm with "Ovid, the Relegated Poet – Metamorphosis of Exile," directed by Daniele Salvo, and starring, among others, another giant of Italian theater: Ugo Pagliai.
